MEMPHIS -- Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose has been named as one of 20 finalists for the USA Basketball team that will compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

"He's just a marvelous player to coach because he's a sponge, and such a team player. He also was part of our select team, like Durant and guys who will be on our select team this year who will then become part of the team that goes forward," Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said of Rose on a Monday conference call. "And so Derrick pays his dues, he's an incredible athelete and an incredible guy."

Rose, the reigning NBA MVP, was the starting point guard for Team USA during the 2010 World Championships which the Americans won, earning an automatic berth into the Olympics.

Rose has said on multiple ocassions in the past about his desire to represent Team USA and earn a gold medal. Aside from winning an NBA championship with the Bulls, Rose has sauid it is the next most important goal on his list.
