Gill St. Bernard's School (NJ) senior power forward Austin Colbert announced his commitment to Illinois on Monday.
Colbert, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward, chose the Illini over Miami, Seton Hall and Villanova. He's ranked the 36th power forward in the Class of 2013 by ESPN.
"I decided to pick Illinois because I just wanted it to be the best fit for me," said Colbert on SNY.tv. "I feel like coach (John) Groce is going to be develop me into a person, develop me into a player and push me every day in practice."
ESPN recruiting coordinator Reggie Rankin believes Colbert will be a success at Illinois.
"Colbert is a very athletic power forward that excels in transition and has the skill to be a match-up problem," Rankin said. "He is an excellent finisher and has great upside. He will fit the Illinois system as with his ability to play inside and face in the spread pick and pop or roll offense. Colbert will also be an asset on the glass."
Colbert is Illinois' fifth Class of 2013 recruit. He joins Simeon (Chicago) shooting guard Kendrick Nunn, who is ranked No. 59 overall, Simeon (Chicago) point guard Jaylon Tate, Belleville East (Ill.) swingman Malcolm Hill, who is ranked No. 89 overall, and Springboro (Ohio) center Maverick Morgan.
