Right-handed pitcher Jeff Stevens and left-handed pitcher James Russell will be recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to Tuesday’s game against the Pirates. Stevens replaces Carlos Zambrano on the roster and Russell replaces John Grabow, who reinjured his left knee in the seventh inning of Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Pirates.
Grabow will see an orthopedic specialist on Tuesday to determine what type of damage was done on Monday night. The Cubs put Grabow on the disabled list immediately after the game.
Santo said that he was most proud of having his number retired by the Cubs, but also took great pride in helping raise $70 million to fight juvenile diabetes, a disease that Santo played his entire career with and which he continues to battle.
Santo retired from baseball after the 1974 season. He spent 13 years with the Cubs and one with the White Sox. Santo began his radio broadcast career in 1990 in a three-man booth along with Thom Brennaman and Bob Brenley.
