After ranking eighth in ESPN.com's Power Rankings each of the past four weeks, the Cincinnati Bengals fell a spot in Tuesday's Power Rankings, slipping to ninth. The fall came two days after their 30-20 loss at Pittsburgh. As slight as the drop might have been, many still may consider it a head-scratcher seeing as how the Bengals won three straight games, including one over a fellow division leader, and couldn't move a single spot in the poll. The Bengals traveled to San Diego and beat the Chargers and knocked off the Indianapolis Colts in the weeks immediately preceding Sunday's loss.
Of the six-person Power Rankings panel, voters Mike Sando and Kevin Seifert were the most critical of the Bengals' defeat. One week after ranking the Bengals eighth, Sando dropped them to 11th. Seifert had them at ninth last week. This week, Cincinnati ended up 13th on his ballot.
The Bengals' highest ranking this season was sixth. That came after a Week 3 win at home over the Green Bay Packers.
