Plays that shaped a season: No. 3
By Pat McManamon
The play: A blocked punt in the second quarter against the Bengals.
The situation: The Browns started the game against Cincinnati talking big about finally playing a meaningful game in November.
The reason it mattered: One of two -- though the second was officially ruled a “tipped punt” -- punt blocks that helped the Bengals score a franchise record 31 points -- in the second quarter. That quarter changed the Browns' season, as hopes for a competitive game disintegrated amid poor special-teams play, a fumble return for a touchdown and overall bungling.
