Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl hopes an NCAA investigation into his recruiting methods doesn't result in the loss of his job, but if things don't work out, there's always pumping gas as a backup plan.
Pearl was all smiles serving as a "celebrity pumper" this week at a local Pilot Travel Center, and the event raised money for the United Way of Greater Knoxville while also giving him an opportunity to mention a future career at the gas station.
"In coaching, you always need to have a profession you need to fall back on if you don't win enough games, so I'm just here practicing," Pearl joked in a promotional video for the event.
UPDATE: Pearl again addressed his job status in an interview with 790 The Zone and was asked if Tennessee would be justified in letting him go.
"I don't think so. No. I think it is certainly up for discussion. I don't believe that that would be the case, otherwise that would be what's taken place."
