NMSU's Wendell McKines needs surgery

New Mexico State forward Wendell McKines could miss between 10 to 12 weeks while recovering from surgery on his broken left foot, the school announced.

McKines, a preseason all-WAC first-team selection, could additionally opt to redshirt in his senior season and wait for next year in order to play a full season. As a junior, the 6-foot-6 forward missed 10 games while working to get academically eligible.

Either way, the loss of McKines is a blow to an Aggies team looking to return to the NCAA tournament after he helped carry them to last season's WAC tournament championship.

McKines averaged 10.7 points and 9.8 rebounds a game as a junior.
