West Liberty (W.Va.) University broke the single-game school and conference scoring record with 154 points in a whopping 106-point season-opening win against Lock Haven on Sunday.

Nine players scored in double-figures, a 5-foot-7 guard came off the bench to lead the team with 20, and the Hilltoppers shot 67.9 percent from the field. It was such a laugher that the players' parents took camera phone pictures of the scoreboard.

The record lasted two days for the nationally-ranked Division II school.

Last night, West Liberty beat Point Park 157-89, scoring 98 points by halftime and hitting a school-record 27 3-pointers in the process. WVNS-TV has video of the barrage of 3s.

The players off the bench played more than the starters did, and while West Liberty coach Jim Crutchfield denies he's trying to embarrass opponents, the points are coming in bunches for a team that last season averaged 100.9 points per game and was 29-3.

"What's happening right now is that we're not only playing very well in all phases of the game, we're shooting the ball extremely well," Crutchfield said in a statement. "At one point during the first half, I was just sitting there a little bit awed by how many shots we were making.

"The question, of course, is can we play well on the nights when we're not shooting well because you know those nights are going to happen but I'll just enjoy this while it lasts."
