Dick Vitale will broadcast the first women's college basketball game of his career tonight when Notre Dame takes on Connecticut. Vitale spoke with Jeff Jacobs of the Hartford Courant about the Gameday event:
"To be honest with you, when I originally looked at our schedule, I saw Saturday night, Dan Shulman, 'GameDay' crew, Notre Dame at UConn, I'm thinking, 'Luke Harangody comes to Connecticut,'" Vitale said. "And then I'm told, 'No, it's the women's game.' I thought they were teasing me.
"But when they told me it was real, I said, 'Absolutely, I'd love to do it. I want to be part of this.' I am a fan of women's basketball. I am by no means an expert. I said make sure Doris Burke is there; Doris is the expert."
