3-point shot: Noles now ACC favorites?

1/25/2012

1.Florida State guard Michael Snaer said on ESPNU’s “The Experts” Tuesday that he’s 100 percent confident the Seminoles will win the ACC. He has reason for being confident. The Seminoles have already beaten North Carolina and won at Duke. FSU doesn’t have to play UNC again and gets Duke back in Tallahassee. Of course, this is the same team that lost by 20 to Clemson and could easily fall again to a lower-level ACC team. But it’s hard not to embrace Snaer’s confidence in his team after the past week.

2.San Diego State’s ridiculous travel to get to Laramie and then its road win over Wyoming is another example of how Steve Fisher has this team focused. The Aztecs already won at New Mexico last week. They’ll head to Colorado State on Saturday. The final tough road test will be their match at UNLV on Feb. 11. Barring a sudden collapse, the Aztecs are going to have a shot at another gaudy record in the MWC and overall.

3.I’ve heard from the masses on Twitter over my key BracketBuster selections. Saint Mary’s at Murray State instead of the Gaels at Creighton is a fine trade-off. But the Gaels and Bluejays are more apt to be deeper NCAA teams and having two headline players -- Matthew Dellavedova and Doug McDermott -- would alone make it worth watching. The other debate is which team should be next to play either Creighton or Murray. Is it Nevada, Wichita State or Long Beach State? You can’t go wrong with any of the choices.
