UC Irvine goes down, Douglass on way out?

Pat Douglass, UC Irvine's all-time wins leader, might have coached his final game at the school after 13 seasons. The Anteaters lost their opening-round game in the Big West tournament to Cal Poly and finished the season 14-18.

Frank Burlison of the Long Beach Press-Telegram reported Douglass was told two weeks ago that his contract would not be extended.

And Douglass' comments to Randy Youngman of the Orange County Register were pretty telling:

I asked Douglass how much he had been thinking about his future and how it affects everything going into the Big West Tournament.

"I think I'll have more time to look for your stray shots on the golf course," he said jokingly.

Does he think he has a chance to save his job this week?

"That's not my call," he said. "That's the administration's call."
