Look, you may not agree with everything T. Boone Pickens has ever done in his public and political life. But that's not what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about basketball fandom. As a basketball fan, particularly a college basketball fan, T. Boone Pickens is awesome, because I'm not sure there is anyone who acts more like I would act were I the 328th-richest person in the United States.
The latest example, via the Associated Press:
Oklahoma State's New Year's Eve matchup against No. 14 Gonzaga is looking like a sellout, thanks to T. Boone Pickens.
The billionaire oilman and Oklahoma State alumnus bought up the remaining 4,000 tickets and will offer them for free to Cowboys fans beginning Wednesday. He says he hopes Oklahoma State fans will pack the arena for the game.
It is not always easy to get people to a college hoops arena on New Year's Eve. Students are off-campus and home for the holidays. Fans that would otherwise go have big New Year's Eve plans, or maybe they're the kind of people who so hate New Year's Eve they rebel against it and stay home and do nothing instead. But now? With free tickets? To a home game against ranked Gonzaga? I find it hard to believe Cowboys fans will be able to stay away.
Or maybe Pickens bought those tickets so he didn't have to sit next to that one guy who always spills popcorn all over the place. What? I'd do it.
