No college basketball prospect in recent memory has survived more tragedy than Michigan's Austin Hatch. Survival, in this case, is literal: In 2011, Hatch -- who lost his mother, sister and brother in a plane crash when he was 8 years old -- suffered severe brain and lung injuries in another plane crash that also killed his father and stepmother. Throughout a long and uncertain recovery, Michigan rallied around its prospect. And now, three years later, Hatch has officially played his first basketball for the Wolverines.
