Austin Hatch checks in for the first time

August, 17, 2014
No college basketball prospect in recent memory has survived more tragedy than Michigan's Austin Hatch. Survival, in this case, is literal: In 2011, Hatch -- who lost his mother, sister and brother in a plane crash when he was 8 years old -- suffered severe brain and lung injuries in another plane crash that also killed his father and stepmother. Throughout a long and uncertain recovery, Michigan rallied around its prospect. And now, three years later, Hatch has officially played his first basketball for the Wolverines. Hatch checked in to Michigan's 99-60 exhibition win over Italy's Perugia Select Team on Sunday night. Afterward, he led the Wolverines in "The Victors."
