Oregon's Catron happy to be a super senior

By Diamond Leung

Oregon already held a senior day for Joevan Catron, honoring the 6-foot-6 forward in March just in case his ailing back -- or maybe the college governing boards -- would prevent him from ever playing for the Ducks again.

Now the school can go ahead and repeat the festivities next year after the Pac-10 granted Catron's medical hardship waiver so he can have a redshirt senior year to play.

"It's a blessing for me," Catron said in a statement. "It's also a fresh start with a new coach -- to get back out there and finish my career the right way."

Dana Altman is certainly glad to bring back a player who was first on the team and sixth in the conference in rebounding as a junior, not to mention the team's most inspirational player. He played four games of his senior season before back pain shut him down for the team's final 28 games.

"We think he can really help us next year," Altman said in a statement. "He has a lot of experience and has worked very hard to return to health."
