Long Beach State extends Dan Monson

By Diamond Leung

Long Beach State has been on an upward trend since Dan Monson arrived in 2007, going from a six-win team then to last year's 49ers who racked up 17 wins including one against UCLA.

Monson has also livened things up by scheduling road games against Duke, Kentucky and Syracuse, with the 49ers playing Kentucky close and set to take on North Carolina in December.

And it's for all this that the school today announced that Monson has signed a contract extension that will take him through the 2016 season.
"For an administration to feel the same as far as giving you an extension to stay here, that they believe in you gives you great confidence to do the job," Monson said in a statement. "My family and I are extremely excited and we can hopefully settle in and concentrate on getting this program where the whole university and community are extremely proud and hopefully bring some championships."

There's work to be done to get to that point. Long Beach State went .500 in Big West play last season, tying for third when the previous year's team had tied for second.

But this season, the 49ers return top three scorers T.J. Robinson, Casper Ware and Larry Anderson along with a coach who's now gotten the backing of his bosses."
