XU to induct Skip Prosser to Hall of Fame

By Eamonn Brennan

The Skip Prosser Classic -- a matchup of Wake Forest and Xavier in honor of the tenures of the now-deceased Prosser at both schools -- is already a cool event. It's no doubt a tear-jerker for many of the fans and hoops folks involved.

It's about to become more so, at least for one night. On Dec. 18, during the second iteration of the Classic, Xavier will induct the now-deceased Prosser into the school's athletic Hall of Fame:
“It’s hard to believe he’s gone, still, to this day. But I think it’s a great tribute,” XU coach Chris Mack said. “He’s about as deserving as anybody that’s been in our Hall of Fame. To (induct him) when both programs that meant a whole lot to him are in town to play a game, I think is completely fitting. It’s going to be a special night.”

Prosser is the second-winningest coach in Xavier basketball history, and he was a longtime assistant for the only man to rank above him on that list: former coach Pete Gillen. He went on to a solid career at Wake Forest and was the only coach in NCAA history to take three different teams to the NCAA tournament in his first year at each school. Prosser will be inducted alongside former XU star forward David West and women's tennis player Lauren Clary, and then his two former teams will play basketball. That sounds like a pretty fitting tribute to me.
