Gary Franklin weighing transfer options
By Diamond Leung
Gary Franklin left Cal because he preferred a different style of play.
That's what his father, Gary Franklin Sr., said he wanted to emphasize in an interview with ESPN.com on Friday.
"He likes to get up and down the floor," Frankin Sr. said. "The style of play did not fit."
So an up-tempo style of play will be one of the main things the freshman guard will seek in a transfer destination that could be announced very soon since he would like to enroll in his new school by the start of spring semester.
Franklin Sr. said his son had "a lot of options" to consider and mentioned that Mountain West Conference schools New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV would be among those in consideration. Franklin has already gotten a look at how New Mexico and and San Diego State play after starting against both teams this season.
Cal announced on Wednesday that the 6-foot-2 Franklin had left the team and would seek a transfer. He scored 8.2 points per game, averaging 25.7 minutes and starting in 11 of the Bears' 13 game this season.
