Caltech wins! First league win in 26 years
By Brett Edgerton
After more than 26 years and 310 losses, Division III Caltech has won a game in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Caltech students rushed the court after their school's first conference win in 26 years.
On Tuesday night, the Beavers beat Occidental College 46-45 at the Braun Athletic Center on their Pasadena campus. Ryan Elmquist, who scored 23 of the team's 46 points, hit a go-ahead free throw with three seconds remaining and Occidental's half-court heave missed at the buzzer. Caltech shot just 24.5 percent (12-of-49), but who really cares -- when it's been 26 years, a win is most certainly a win.
Afterward, the Caltech students rushed the floor in what was the school's first conference victory since beating La Verne on Jan. 23, 1985.
