INDIANAPOLIS -- One of college basketball’s most influential and mysterious characters found himself on a sort of wanted poster here at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Security guards were given a piece of paper with a photograph of William "Worldwide Wes" Wesley, a registered agent, at the entrance used by media and the teams.
Security guards didn’t know who had distributed the picture, but after Dan Wolken of USA Today wrote about it on Twitter, they promptly took down the flier. A guard at the table near the elevators turned the paper over and refused to show it to media when asked.
Media coordinator John Dedmon said he wasn’t aware of anyone barring Wesley from the Midwest Regional games but, like anyone else, he would not be permitted in restricted areas without a credential.
A year ago, Wesley was in the locker room after Kentucky won its national championship and has been known to hang out around several college programs.
The NCAA did not return phone calls asking for comment or clarification.
