The No. 5-ranked recruiting class in the country just got stronger. ESPN 150 outside linebacker Jacob Pugh (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby) gave a verbal commitment to Florida State on Wednesday. The 6-foot-4, 224-pound athlete chose the Seminoles over Alabama and Florida.

"I just felt Florida State was the right fit for me," the Under Armour All-American said. "I went up there on Tuesday and talked with coach [Jeremy] Pruitt and all the coaches and the D-lineman DeMarcus [Walker] and it just made me want to be a part of what they are doing even more.

"Plus it's closer to home. When I go up there I just feel like I belong there. When Coach Pruitt first got the job, coach [Jimbo] Fisher asked him about me, and Coach Pruitt told him he was going to get me -- and now he's got me."

Pugh admits his decision did not come easy.

"It was real close," he said. "It was a hard hard decision. I almost cried. I just had to choose, so I just decided I wanted to stay close to home and not go out of state or nothing like that. It was a real tough decision for me. A lot of people gave me their opinions of what they think I should do, so I took that and ran with it."

As for how FSU will fit him into its defense, Pugh said the plan is to use him like returning linebacker Christian Jones.

"Sometimes they will put me in the dirt at the nine-technique and rush the passer and then sometimes they drop back in coverage,” Pugh said. “I can do a lot of that same stuff."

The four-star linebacker said his commitment is solid, but he still might visit other schools over the summer.

"I'm going to see what [FSU] thinks about me visiting other schools,” Pugh said. “I got some camps I want to go to over the summer. Like Kentucky, Vanderbilt, North Carolina and Alabama. I just want to go to camps to get better over the summer."

Pugh said FSU fans can expect to get a relentless defender: "They are going to get a player with a motor, a non-stop motor that's going to play -- that's going to hit and I'm going to play like I've never played before. Like I'm on fire."

With Pugh in the fold, FSU now has 11 commits, including five who are among the ESPN 150. Pugh joins ESPN 150 linebackers Delvin Purifoy and Kain Daub as FSU commits.
