WR commit Worton satisfied with FSU trip

By Corey Dowlar

This weekend gave Florida State a chance to improve its standing with commitment C.J. Worton (Homestead, Fla./South Dade) amid the speculation of Miami's increased influence.

The ESPN Watch List member has felt the full-court press of the Hurricanes since they offered, and with ties such as former FSU offensive coordinator James Coley, FSU's in-state rival should be considered a threat. So Worton's decision to drive up to Tallahassee for an unofficial visit presented a big opportunity.

"The visit was awesome," Worton said. "Getting to see the coaches and watching practice was great."

The new coaching staff, including of new regional recruiter Tim Brewster, had yet to interact with Worton on a face-to-face basis. Lawrence Dawsey, his position coach should he sign with the Seminoles, reminded the 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver that they will need numbers at his position coming up.

"They were real excited to talk to me and catch up and everything," he said. "Coach Dawsey was real excited to see me and was telling me how thin he is getting at wide receiver because they could lose four, possibly five. And I also got to talk to Coach Brew [Brewster], and he was really excited to finally meet me."

Worton said his trip made his Florida State commitment stronger than before.

"Definitely," he said. "Every time I go up to campus I feel like I want to be there."

Worton won't have too much free time this summer between offseason workouts and summer camps. All throughout Florida, and potentially beyond, he will be competing against other prospects under the supervision of college coaches.

"FSU, UM, UF, UCF and possibly Ohio State and LSU," he listed.

Worton also has offers from Marshall and Ole Miss. Ohio State and UCF continue to show interest.
