Six-foot-9 OT Ruble garnering big attention

By Josh Moyer

ASHBURN, Va. -- Offensive tackle Brock Ruble (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) has been in high demand lately.

Since the holidays, the 6-foot-9 prospect said he usually leaves school with a white trash bag full of letters. Not too shabby for a first-year starter.

"Yeah, I'll just have to throw a trash bag over my shoulder, put it in my car and drive home," he said with a laugh. "I've just been getting lots of letters, lots of Facebook messages. Just lots of that kind of stuff."

The recruiting process is relatively new to Ruble, who's been focused on basketball most of his life, so he's trying to take everything slow. The 310-pound lineman is focusing on the camp circuit right now and plans to visit more colleges over the summer. He hopes to trim his growing list by the time his senior season starts.

He already holds about a dozen offers, and he said seven schools are coming at him especially hard: Florida State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, NC State, South Carolina, Rutgers and Tennessee.

And, despite all the attention, he said he's trying to focus on one particular element when it comes to picking the right school.

"Of course the campus and academics," he said. "But the thing I really focus on is the relationship with the offensive line coach. He's the one who's going to get you better; he's basically like a teacher.

"You have to make sure you get the right one and have a certain confidence level that they're going to stay."
