Davis ready for spring ball

By Corey Dowlar

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Ryan Davis (St. Petersburg, Fla./Northeast) came to the IMG Academy with a purpose. He was out to prove he belonged.

It didn't take too long. Weaving in and out of would-be tacklers, Davis drew some appreciation from teammates and bystanders alike.

"It just shows that you can compete with some of the best players in the state," he said. "I think it was a great opportunity for me to play against these guys."

Davis' last visit was to Florida State for its spring game. Other than that trip, things have been quiet on the recruiting front.

"It has been kind of dry right now," he said. "I haven't really been talking to anybody besides that. I am just being patient and waiting."

The spring evaluation period could change that.

When May 1 rolls around, coaches won't be allowed to contact Davis while attending his practices. But they can definitely watch and see what kind of potential he has.

"I am excited," he said. "Just the recruiting experience and just watching how other people have gone through it, I am excited."

Listed as an athlete, Davis fulfills that role for Northeast. He'll line up all over the field on both sides of the ball for his team this spring.

"I am going to be playing quarterback again," he said. "They are going to out me at safety in some situations. They are just going to use me all over."

Of schools that haven't offered yet but he'd like to see show interest, Davis listed at least four. He's got a type of offense that he thinks he'd fit in to as well.

"Hopefully West Virginia, Miami (Fla.), Tennessee or Texas A&M," Davis said. "Spread offense type schools that can fit me."
