Daub dabbling in recruiting at Opening

By Tom VanHaaren

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- ESPN 150 linebacker Kain Daub (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood) has been committed to Florida State since April, which means he has his recruiting hat on at The Opening. The No. 36 ranked player in the nation has his eye on a few uncommitted prospects to target for the Seminoles.

"There is a safety here and a couple kids that might commit," he said. "But everywhere I go, I try to recruit. Even if I run into a football player I know in Walmart, I'll still try to recruit him."

The 6-foot-3, 243-pound linebacker says his recruiting pitch isn't forceful or in-your-face, but just telling prospects about what the Seminoles have to offer.

"I just say that I love the coaches and I feel like you can get early playing time there," he said. "The coaches just actually care about you, and I love how they get stuff done."

Since he is committed, Daub says he isn't really worried about the rankings or impressing anyone out in Oregon. For him it's more about the experience and the relationships that he's building on the trip.

"I really have nothing to prove. Everywhere I go now, it's either just to have fun or to recruit for Florida State," he said. "Those are the only two reasons I do these things anymore. I would probably never come to Oregon, and you can always get work out of competing against top players."
