Decision soon for OT Johnson? Not likely
By Damon Sayles
Where will ESPN 300 offensive tackle Roderick Johnson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) end up?
Florida State? Alabama? Missouri? Ole Miss? Someplace else?
Johnson knows these are the questions the public wants answered, but the No. 139 player in the ESPN 300 and the No. 2 player in Missouri isn’t ready to tip his hand. In fact, he’s excited about the upcoming down time that will precede his team’s preseason workouts.
“I’m enjoying the time off,” Johnson said. “You’ve got to enjoy your process to the fullest. Not many get to go through with it. Everything has calmed down some; nothing is outrageous like it used to be, but it’s still an open race for me.”
Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 330-pound tackle, completed his summer unofficial visits last month after making stops at Florida State, Alabama and Ole Miss. All three schools received high praise, and Johnson said all three have a good shot of receiving an official visit later this year.
Johnson has additional offers from Arkansas, Florida, Kansas State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and several other programs. As for setting official visits, Johnson said he’ll look at making final decisions before the start of the fall.
“Everything’s still up for grabs,” he said. “By August or September, I’ll know where I should be going.”
As for now, don’t look for Johnson to make anything final -- except for the fact that he’s focused on the Hazelwood Central football schedule.
“I’m getting ready for my senior season,” he said. “I’m trying to get me something on my finger.”
