Texas DE wowed by Michigan

Michigan only had a handful of uncommitted prospects on hand for the spring game, but the targets that were there were big names. That includes defensive end Christian Lacouture (College Station, Texas/A&M Consolidated), who made the long trip all the way from Texas just to see Ann Arbor in person.

Lacouture was committed to Texas A&M at one point, but opened things up once there was a coaching change with the Aggies. Ever since that happened he has listed Michigan as one of his favorites, and this visit only solidified that for him.

"It was really good for me to come up to Michigan," he said. "It was a great visit, and I'm looking to possibly come up again soon. My dad didn't get to come this time so I'd like him to come up and see it, too."

Lacouture and his mother got in town Friday afternoon and were able to spend the two days really getting to know the program and what Michigan would have to offer him.

"We spent a few hours with the coaches, and we had a great time. We talked about the tradition, where they see me coming in at and then we finished up the academic portion on Saturday morning," he said.

The staff also got a chance to talk to him about where they see him lining up in the defense. Lacouture would mainly be a strongside defensive end, but the coaching staff told him they think he's versatile enough that he could even move inside and play defensive tackle.

Outside of talking to the coaches, Lacouture also got to hang out with some of Michigan's commitments from the 2013 class and a few of the 2012 signees as well. That often times can be a big factor in a visit, as the prospects can gauge the type of prospect a program is looking to bring in.

"I think it really helped that I got to talk to (the commitments). I just wanted to ask them about how they felt about the program," he said. "They talked about the tradition and what it means to represent Michigan, and you can tell they want Michigan to be successful. That's what I want from the school I choose."

This visit seemed to really impress the 6-foot-5, 265-pound lineman. It gave the Texas prospect a full view of what he could expect out of Michigan, a chance to mingle with the incoming prospects and potentially got him closer to an end to his recruitment.

"I'm going to make my decision here pretty soon; probably after spring ball or early summer," he said. "My dad couldn't come make it up and he'd really like to come up and see Michigan. I've narrowed it down to Michigan, Nebraska and LSU. Those are the schools that I feel like I could win a national championship, get a great education and have a chance to learn and grow."

Lacouture has already been out to LSU around three times, so he would like the opportunity to see the other two schools on his list once again. Since he had the decommitment earlier on in the process, Lacouture says he really wants to make sure he's making the right choice this time around.
