Head coach Bob Stoops seemed pleased that Oklahoma’s annual bout with the Longhorns will continue at the Cotton Bowl through 2020, in part thanks to a $25.5 million renovation of the State Fair Park stadium.

“It’s special playing in the Cotton Bowl,” Stoops said during Big 12 media days. “The environment of a state fair surround that whole beautiful — I’d still say it’s beautiful — stadium because of what it is. It’s the Cotton Bowl. I’m kind of a stadium junkie. I like playing in all of them. To play in the Cotton Bowl has always been pretty special.”

Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has been rumored to be interested in relocating the Red River Rivalry to their stadium. But Stoops said he hopes the game remains in the Cotton Bowl.

“Hopefully they’ll continue to make improvements to keep it there,” Stoops said. “You look at the number of seats they’ve been able to add, it’s a major positive as well. Just pulling into that atmosphere with the state fair going on around it is pretty special not only for the teams, I’m sure for the fans as well.”
