Cornerback Demontre Hurst recognizes the bravado with which the secondary displayed early last season came back to bite them later on in embarrassing performances against Texas Tech and Baylor.
Since the season, Hurst and company put the “Sharks” moniker on the shelf to try and ground themselves for this season.
“We laid low on the shark stuff to get our focus back, our mentality back and become a true secondary,” Hurst said.
Hurst said the defensive backfield, which dubbed themselves the “Sharks” before last season, could bring the nickname back. But only after they’ve felt they’ve earned it.
"It's a daily grind," he said. "It's going to be a challenge for us. We have a lot to prove to ourselves -- we have a lot to prove to everyone else."
