Receiver Trey Metoyer has been the talk of Oklahoma’s spring practices. The spring enrollee’s one-handed catches and playmaking skills has made an immediate impression.

But the freshman is not the only receiver having a good spring. Receivers coach Jay Norvell is happy with his players' progress.

“Jaz [Reynolds] has had a tremendous spring,” Norvell said. “He’s a guy who was in a hospital bed not too long ago. He was thinking about getting surgery and decided not to. He’s out there every day showing leadership and working.”

Sophomore Kameel Jackson was thrown into the fire late during his true freshman campaign and he’s working to secure a spot in OU’s offense. Jackson had 12 receptions for 165 yards and started two games in 2011.

“Kameel continues to work and gives us great competition out there,” Norvell said. “He’s a guy who’s gaining confidence. He’s stronger, more physical and explosive than he’s ever been.”

Heading into 2012, Norvell will have four receivers with starting experience at his disposal.

“We have more flexibility [than usual],” Norvell said. “When guys have played, we can play them all over the field which gives us flexibility to play guys which has been good this spring.”

Adding Metoyer -- the lone February signee at the position already on campus -- along with Durron Neal, Sterling Shepard, Derrick Woods and Courtney Gardner into the mix could make the Sooners receivers among the deepest groups in the Big 12.
