ESPN 150 TB Derrick Green has visitors

By Dave Hooker

Sensing an opportunity to land one of the top tailbacks in the nation, coaches from some of the most tradition-laden schools were scheduled to visit Derrick Green on Tuesday.

Miami running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Terry Richardson was in to see Green, the four-star tailback from Richmond (Va.) Hermitage. The Canes are in the running after being a non-factor for most of his recruitment. Green shifted his list of finalists earlier this month when he dropped Virginia Tech and added Miami.

Miami's ability to jump in is largely due to the many changes among Green's finalists. The ESPN 150 prospect has seen coaching changes at two of the schools he was strongly considering: Auburn and Tennessee.

Green has said coaching changes won't affect his decision. Still, relationships will have to be rebuilt.

Michigan is thought to be in strong position. They were determined to further that standing by sending defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery and running backs coach Fred Jackson to see Green on Tuesday.

Green's other finalists are Ole Miss and Oregon. The 6-foot, 215-pound prospect has said he'll take an official visit to Oregon after postponing it earlier this month. Green has already taken official visits to Tennessee, Michigan and Auburn.

That will leave Green with a decision to make. As per NCAA rules, he can only take five official visits. Therefore, he has two left to take. Oregon, Miami and Ole Miss are all vying for one of the final spots.
