SAN ANTONIO -- The second practice had the veterans show up, and both units looked good.

*Safety Pat Watkins was added to the injury report with a sore knee. It could be a few days for him. Defensive end Lorenzo Washington (hamstring) re-injured his leg while trying to practice, and his status has frustrated the team. Tight end Martellus Bennett (ankle), safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, linebacker Sean Lee (quad), linebacker Stephen Hodge (knee), defensive tackle Sean Lissemore (groin), nose tackle Josh Brent (hand) and defensive end Jason Hatcher (elbow) missed the second practice. Bennett and Brent have a chance to return this weekend.

*Wide receiver Dez Bryant and cornerback Bryan McCann were the scout-team kick returners, though Bryant might become the man there full-time. Bryant is also fielding punt returns. He's showing good vision as he returns the kicks and, of course, he has that quickness.

"He’s special with the ball in his hand regardless of how he gets it," special teams coach Joe DeCamillis said. "He's got a chance to be exceptional at both."

*We believe Kevin Ogletree is going to make the 45-man game day roster, but when we see him drop a catchable pass, thrown a little high by Tony Romo, you're reminded of what offensive coordinator Jason Garrett said about him. He wants to see some consistency from Ogletree if he's going to see more playing time in 2010. And where does Ogletree display his consistency? In practice.

*During an 11-on-11 drive with the first-team offense vs. the first-team defense, outside linebacker Anthony Spencer frustrated Romo. Spencer beat his man twice for sacks. On the second one, Romo slammed the ball down in frustration. On the third play of the series, Romo threw an incompletion to Bryant, who lined up in the slot. Bryant still almost made the catch as he was falling down.

*Inside linebacker Jason Williams did a nice job in getting off the ball quick to beat Tashard Choice on the blitz. With quarterback Jon Kitna looking downfield, Williams came from the outside for the sack. On the next play, left tackle Alex Barron pancaked blitzing linebacker Steve Octavien.

*Cornerback Cletis Gordon is making plays down here. While he might not always get an interception or pass breakup, he's sticking with receivers. On a Kitna pass to Ogletree, Gordon was right behind the receiver on the incomplete pass.

*Cornerback Terence Newman had a strong practice. He provided tight coverage on deep pass plays and was able to show some quickness. On a Kitna pass to Bryant that landed incomplete, Newman was stride-for-stride with the rookie. Safety Alan Ball came over provide deep help, and the two converged on the pass to knock it away.
