OXNARD, Calif. -- The Cowboys claimed defensive end Thaddeus Gibson off waivers after he was released by the Tennessee Titans.

To make room for Gibson, the Cowboys released tackle James Nelson.

The Cowboys are short-handed along the defensive line; tackle Jay Ratliff, end Anthony Spencer and tackle Sean Lissemore are out with injuries. Ratliff hasn't practiced in training camp.

Plus, defensive end Tyrone Crawford is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon.
Calvin Watkins joined ESPNDallas.com in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
