The Dallas Cowboys have an interest in free-agent defensive tackle Henry Melton. A source said the Cowboys, after creating $7.4 million in salary-cap space by releasing DeMarcus Ware on Tuesday, would potentially bring Melton to Valley Ranch for a visit.

Melton, 27, is coming off surgery to repair his left ACL, and it’s uncertain what type of money he would get on the open market.

Last season for the Chicago Bears, Melton played in just three games before suffering his knee injury. In 2012, Melton was selected to the Pro Bowl while playing for then-defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

Now Marinelli is the Cowboys defensive coordinator, and if Melton's health checks out it could be a good fit.

Melton, a Dallas native, played college ball at Texas.
