Jason Williams not surprised Phillips was fired
By Calvin Watkins
Former Cowboys linebacker Jason Williams, who was claimed by the Carolina Panthers last week, wasn't surprised to see coach Wade Phillips fired on Monday.
"Really with the way the season's been going, it's not that much of a surprise," Williams said to the Charlotte Observer. "Just the environment, the way things work down there. After things turned for the worse, everybody kind of saw it coming."
Williams underachieved badly with the Cowboys.
A third round pick in 2009, Williams battled injuries his rookie year and played five games. This season his inability to perform at a consistent basis on defense and at times on special teams, finally forced the Cowboys to cut him after only five games.
