Buddy Ryan battling cancer again

By Calvin Watkins

Buddy Ryan, the father of Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, has cancer.

Gary Myers of the New York Daily News talked to New York Jets coach, Rex Ryan about it here.

One of the best quotes of the story says all you need to know about Buddy Ryan from Rex: "He's 80 years old, but he's doing great. He's tougher than [expletive]. He's had other things in his life. He overcame encephalitis. He's overcome cancer twice. He's tough."

Buddy Ryan is 77.

According to the story, Encephalitis is an acute inflammation of the brain. Rex Ryan said his father beat melanoma twice but would not say what type of cancer his dad is fighting now. Buddy Ryan is getting a second opinion about his health problem in New York.

Rob Ryan was unavailable for comment.
