Texas WR in trouble, transferring

1/14/2010

Texas coach Mack Brown said wide receiver Dan Buckner will transfer to another school after being arrested on a misdemeanor trespassing charge and allegedly resisting arrest.

Texas officials released a statement Thursday from Buckner and Brown.

Bucker caught one pass for minus-3 yards in Texas' 37-21 loss to Alabama in the BCS championship game.

Statement from Mack Brown on Dan Buckner situation:

"We've talked to Dan and his family about his recent situation and they've

assured us that he doesn't think he did anything wrong and they're confident

that it will be cleared up through the legal process. During our discussion

with Dan and his family, we all decided that the best thing for him would be

to transfer to another school and get a fresh start. We told them that we

would release him of his scholarship and help him with the transition

process in any way we can. We appreciate everything Dan has done for Texas

and our football program and wish him the best in the future."

Statement from Dan Buckner:

"I want to thank coach Brown, coach Kennedy and all of the staff for

everything they've done for me," Buckner said. "I've really enjoyed my time

at Texas, but we've talked about my situation and I think it is best for me

to get a fresh start and transfer to another school. I will miss all of my

teammates, but will be keeping up with everyone and always cheering on the

Longhorns."

According to police, Buckner was visiting a woman at her apartment in College Station early Thursday when they got into an argument and he was asked to leave, the Associated Press reported. Buckner was escorted by police to his vehicle but refused to leave and resisted when officers tried to place him under arrest.
