Dallas Baptist's run to the NCAA Tournament including stopping powers Oklahoma and TCU to win the Fort Worth Regional has earned the baseball team membership in the Western Athletic Conference starting with the 2012-13 academic year.
The WAC announced Monday that Dallas Baptist and CSU Bakersfield have agreed to join the conference in baseball. For those not up to date on the new-look WAC, those two clubs join eight: Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio and Texas State, along with Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, San Jose State and Seattle.
Dallas Baptist has played Division I baseball for six seasons and built a 208-132 record playing as an independent. Coach Dan Heefner is in his fifth season at the school and led the team to its first-ever appearance in an NCAA Super Regional, finishing the 2011 season ranked No. 16 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.
"The invitation and acceptance to join the WAC is a testament to where this program has been and the support we receive from our administration," Heefner said in a school release. "It's going to be an extremely competitive league that will challenge us and require us to continue to grow."
