Last season's season-making win came on the road against No. 1 Oklahoma.

This year, it was a 35-point beatdown of No. 5 West Virginia. The problem last year? Texas Tech didn't win another game the rest of the year and fell out of the postseason with a 5-7 record.

This year, you can forget a major dropoff. Texas Tech validated its win this year by going on the road against No. 23 TCU and getting a 56-53 win in triple overtime, clinched with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Seth Doege to Alex Torres to clinch the win and spark a dogpile full of Texas Tech players.

All that came after falling down 17-7 in the second quarter and rallying to take a halftime lead, only to blow a double-digit fourth-quarter lead in just 2:25.

Much of the second half was a struggle offensively for the Red Raiders, but they took the lead on a 10-play, 81-yard drive midway through the fourth quarter that featured a pair of big catches by Torres. He caught one for 13 yards and grabbed another for 13 yards on the next play with a diving, one-handed catch toward the sideline that was upheld by a review.

He capped the drive with an 8-yard grab in the back corner of the end zone.

Before that drive, Texas Tech had just one first down in the second half.

Any game like this is bound to feature plenty of emotion, and it'll be easy to feel like it was wasted for the Horned Frogs, who fall to 5-2 with the loss and likely out of the top 25. Still, there's no shame in this loss, and TCU has suffered more injuries and suspensions than any team in the Big 12.

On this day, Texas Tech was the better team and would hardly even need a plane to fly back to Lubbock tonight.

After last season's debacle, the Red Raiders are officially 6-1 and bowl eligible heading into next week's game on the road against Kansas State.
