Oklahoma State gets bowl-eligible vs. WVU

Oklahoma State coaches insisted all offseason that they had three quarterbacks they felt could win games for them.

All three have now officially proven Mike Gundy and offensive coordinator Todd Monken correct.

Clint Chelf earned his first career start on Saturday and made the most of it, throwing for 292 yards on 22-of-31 passing in a 55-34 victory over West Virginia that gave Oklahoma State its sixth win and officially designated the Pokes as a bowl-eligible squad.

Meanwhile, West Virginia's losing streak reaches four, and the floundering Moutnaineers are still fighting for bowl eligibility themselves. That's a far cry from where WVU was about a month ago, sitting at 5-0 and undefeated, in the thick of the BCS title race and No. 5 in the polls.

The Big 12 has been unkind since, but the latest indignity came courtesy of the reigning league champs, who were badly in need of a win of their own.

Josh Stewart continued to be the Cowboys' most consistent target in the passing game, catching 13 passes for 172 yards and a pair of scores, as well as a 46-yard rushing touchdown to open the day's scoring.

West Virginia's special teams miscues helped keep the game out of reach late, too. WVU turned the ball over twice when a punt and a kickoff hit Mountaineers players, resulting in turnovers. The Mountaineers gave up a 96-yard kickoff return for a score to Justin Gilbert, too.

That's not going to win you many games, and West Virginia will fly home without a win in part thanks to those errors.

Oklahoma State wins, but is there a quarterback debate in Stillwater? Wes Lunt was reportedly cleared to play and was in uniform, but Chelf got the call. The guess here is that Lunt was available but not 100 percent, and coaches went with a healthy Chelf.

Still, the junior looked good last week against Kansas State in relief of Lunt and got the win this week. Do coaches leave him out there next week against Texas Tech?
