Big 12 title race update: Week 14
Oklahoma State and Texas simplified it a whole lot by losing over the holiday weekend. That leaves just two thoroughbreds still standing in the race for the Big 12's crystal bowl: Oklahoma and Kansas State.
The race is pretty simple this weekend.
Oklahoma travels to TCU and will play the early game. If the Sooners win, they clinch at least a share of the Big 12 title. If they lose, the ball is in Kansas State's court.
If Oklahoma wins and Kansas State loses, the Sooners will be the outright Big 12 champions and receive the league's automatic BCS bid, but reportedly may engineer a switch to the Sugar Bowl, because they've played a bowl game in the Phoenix metroplex in four of the past six years.
If Kansas State beats Texas in prime time, they're guaranteed a share of the Big 12 title. It would receive the league's automatic BCS bid because it owns the tiebreaker against the Sooners, won in Norman back in September. If Oklahoma loses earlier in the day, K-State will be guaranteed a share of the Big 12 title and the league's automatic BCS bid, but would need to win to secure an outright title, its first Big 12 title since 2003.
Here's where the Big 12 standings sit with one week to go:
T-1. Kansas State (7-1)
T-1. Oklahoma (7-1)
T-3. Texas (5-3)
T-3. Oklahoma State (5-3)
5. TCU (4-4)
6. Texas Tech (4-5)
T-7. West Virginia (3-5)
T-7. Baylor (3-5)
9. Iowa State (3-6)
10. Kansas (0-8)
