TCU gets a big 2013 late recruiting pickup
TCU went down to the swamps of Louisiana to grab Tevin Lawson, the nation's No. 152 overall recruit who'll play defensive line in TCU's defense for Gary Patterson. The 6-foot-4, 275-pounder hails from Denham Springs, La. and was committed to LSU at one point during the recruiting season. He also held offers from Big 12 schools like Oklahoma, Texas and Oklahoma State.
What kind of player are the Frogs getting? Here's what our scouts had to say:
Lawson plays on both sides of the ball in high school and an argument could be made for him as a defensive or offensive line prospect. Regardless of which side of the ball he play, he has good height and looks to possess a very nice wing span for his build. He needs to add more bulk, but should be able to pack on additional size with time in a college weight program. He has merit as a defensive tackle prospect. He can be inconsistent, but gets off the ball well. He is able to play with good pad level and while he needs to be a little more consistent he uses his reach well and is active with is hands when taking on blockers. He has good long speed for his size and flashes the ability to come across the ball and quickly flatten.
Exciting stuff and a big name and prospect for the Frogs. You've gotta love the late additions to classes, especially when they're more highly recruited than any player in the class.
