TCU's Devonte Fields done for season
This has been a nightmare season for Fields, who as a freshman led the Big 12 last season with 18.5 tackles for a loss. He didn't play in TCU's opener against LSU and played just one quarter the following week against Southeastern Louisiana while serving a suspension for breaking unspecified team rules in the spring.
Fields suffered the foot injury in TCU's third game, a meeting at Texas Tech. He tried to return last weekend at Oklahoma, but was ineffective.
This is obviously a big blow for TCU. At the same time, the Horned Frogs have basically been playing without Fields anyway -- at least the same Fields that wreaked havoc up front last season. This was the right call for a number of reasons. If TCU had waited any longer, Fields would not have been eligible for a medical redshirt. Now, the Horned Frogs will have Fields for the next three years. And it will more than likely be the same Fields that dominated the Big 12 last season, as opposed to the one who was out of shape and hobbling around this season.
