Instant analysis: Baylor 41, Oklahoma 12
They might have started slowly -- well, for them -- but the No. 6 Baylor Bears poured it on and beat No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners 41-12 on Thursday night.
It was over when: Baylor QB Bryce Petty connected with Antwan Goodley for a 25-yard touchdown to put Baylor ahead 41-12. That score came with 9:03 left, capped a 61-second drive and effectively finished off the Sooners.
Game ball goes to: Baylor RB Shock Linwood. Good thing he gets so much playing time in blowout wins. The third-string back was ready for his chance when Glasco Martin and then Lache Seastrunk went down, rushing for 182 yards on 23 carries to keep the Bears' offense rolling. The redshirt freshman now has three 100-yard games on the season.
Stat of the game: Oklahoma finished with 87 rushing yards on 34 attempts, with no running back gaining more than 36 yards on the night. Once the Sooners fell behind by 19, just before halftime, they had little use for a rushing attack that never got rolling.
What Baylor learned: Any time you can have an off night and still beat the No. 10 team in the country by 29 points, you’re in pretty decent shape. The Bears probably needed to put up a lot more points to really impress voters, but folks should take notice of what this defense did to the Sooners. It’s a strong showing no matter how inept OU is on offense.
What Oklahoma learned: The Sooner defense showed up early and is probably a bit better than this final score suggests. But that Blake Bell-led offense continues to be a jumbled mess on its worst days and far too inconsistent, and throwing Trevor Knight in for occasional cameos didn’t help much. Oklahoma has two easy foes up next but is going to need some help to get back into this Big 12 title race.
