SMU closes out class of 25
By Jeff Caplan
June Jones has closed the books on his second recruiting class. Kenneth Acker, a defensive back out of Portland, Ore., was the 25th and final player to sign. Perhaps 25 is the appropriate number for this class since it's being hailed as the program's best in 25 years.
One of the headliners to the class is St. Louis quarterback Steve Kaiser out De Smet Jesuit High School. Kaiser was the first recruit to sign this morning at 7:30 sharp. The Mustangs should have one heck of an interesting quarterback battle this spring and fall. Incumbent Kyle Padron will be a sophomore. He has to be the favorite to start next season after taking over mid-season with poise and ending it with a record-breaking passing performance at the Hawaii Bowl.
Padron took over for junior-to-be Bo Levi Mitchell, who started 2009 until an injury forced him out. Add Kaiser to the mix and things should be ultra-competitive.
