Purke paces TCU, which clinches MWC
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Jason Coats singled in the tying runs in the top of the ninth and Aaron Schultz drove in the game-winning score in the top of 12th to give No. 4 TCU a 19-17 rally victory over Air Force on Friday.
The win clinched the Horned Frogs' fifth-straight MWC regular-season baseball title. The game was the completion of a suspended contest that began March 28 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and resumed with two outs in the top of the seventh.
Matt Purke (10-0), the Texas Rangers' 2009 first-round pick who went unsigned, assumed a relief role for TCU in the resumed game. He allowed a run on five hits with one intentional walk while striking out a career-high 12 strikeouts.
The Horned Frogs (39-10, 18-4) rolled again later Friday with an 8-2 win over the Falcons. Coats drove in two more runs for TCU.
