Dallas Colleges: Texas A&M baseball

Texas A&M-Arizona regional final postponed

June, 6, 2011
Monday night's College Station Regional championship game between Texas A&M and Arizona was rained out and rescheduled for 12:35 p.m. Tuesday.

The game never started because of the weather.

Arizona climbed into the regional final after losing its opener against Seton Hall, 4-0. The Wildcats then won three straight, including Sunday's 7-4 win over the Aggies to force a deciding game.

Texas A&M unable to finish off Arizona

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Josh Garcia homered and Jett Bandy and Bobby Rinard each drove in two runs as Arizona forced a deciding game in the College Station regional with a 7-4 victory over Texas A&M on Sunday night.

The Wildcats (39-20) and Aggies (44-19) will meet again Monday, with the winner advancing to the super regionals.

A frightening moment occurred in the top of the third, when A&M's Krey Bratsen lined a ball that struck Arizona starter Tyler Hale on his right (pitching) arm following his delivery. Hale was sprawled on the mound for a few seconds before climbing to his feet. After attempting a warmup pitch, Hale left to a standing ovation.

Arizona trailed 2-1 in the sixth when Robert Refsnyder led off with a double. Rob Childress pulled starter Derrick Hadley for Kyle Martin, but the Wildcats scored three times to take a 4-2 lead.

Aggies' region to be on ESPNU

ESPN announced this morning ESPNU will be broadcasting the Coral Gables regional this weekend. Included in the region are the host, Miami (Fla.), two seed Texas A&M, three seed Florida International and four seed Dartmouth.

Rob Childress' A&M squad won the Big 12 tournament title over Baylor on Sunday afternoon 5-3 in 10 innings. They were finally able to beat Texas in their second to last game game of the tournament, 9-3, and may be peaking at the right time, but the competition will be tough.

This will be Miami's 38th consecutive year in the field, Florida International will bring Garrett Wittels' 54-game hit streak (and ESPN's cameras) to the region and Dartmouth won the Ivy League.
