Texas Tech is stuck playing second fiddle all too often these days.

It doesn't have the mammoth stadiums of Texas or Texas A&M. It doesn't have the tradition or the winning percentage edge over either team.

Still, it's won plenty of games over the past decade and looks to do the same in 2012 after a rough 2011 season that saw the Red Raiders look every bit the worst major conference team in Texas.

On Saturday, Texas Tech will beat Texas and transform into the best team in Texas after Mississippi State knocks off Texas A&M.

What a better weekend to do it than this one, when the Red Raiders will be wearing their "Lone Star Pride" jerseys, complete with the Lone Star logo on the shoulder pads, a symbol of state pride.

When Saturday is over, no one in the state will swell with pride like the Red Raiders, who have the state's best quarterback leading what will soon be the state's best team.

Seth Doege has four more touchdown passes than any other player in the country, and he's completing over 79 percent of his passes in the red zone. He's quietly been as good as any quarterback in the country, ranking ninth nationally in passer rating.

He's been the ideal senior leader for the Red Raiders, and he'll be the biggest reason the Red Raiders get a big win on Saturday.
