IRVING -- I covered boxing for about seven years at The Dallas Morning News. So I'm familiar with the area boxing scene.

There has been talk that Floyd Mayweather might take on Manny Pacquiao at Cowboys Stadium in the spring.

I doubt it will happen there. Yes, the Cowboys new stadium is a wonderful venue. The video board alone makes it the best new stadium in the NFL, if not all of professional sports.

But money is what's important here.

The fight is going to Las Vegas. They have more money than Jerry Jones. The purse is going to be at least $25 million for each fighter. So, Jones wants to put up $50 million or close to that to get the fighters to Arlington?

It's a nice dream to have the biggest fight in the game, if it happens, in Arlington. But the Vegas casinos will have more money to get the fight than Jones. Plus, there's more to do in Vegas than Arlington. Nothing personal, I used to live there.

"We could do a great job by having that fight in Arlington," Jones said on his weekly radio show on Thursday.

The new Yankees Stadium is another possibility but promoter Bob Arum ruled it out because of the state income tax. The fighters might have to pay at least $50,000 in taxes to have the fight in New York.

Now Texas doesn't have a state income tax, which is good, and it has held some great fights in San Antonio and El Paso in the last 15 years. Dallas isn't a fight town, never has been. For one night, Arlington could be. It's nice to talk about and write about, but I doubt Arlington is going to host the fight.

Stephen Jones and Arum have talked about it, but haven't exchanged any financial numbers.

"Those would all be great places to have the fight, but we think we have a center of the country location, venue that could break all records for fighting attendance," Jones said. "It's exciting to talk about, there is talk, there has been talk. Just because of what [was] mentioned we don't want to get out front, but certainly we could do a great job of having that fight in Arlington."
