Phillips said Ware is feeling much better than he was Sunday night, when sources told ESPNDallas he could miss at least two weeks with the neck injury.
"He took quite a hit, but he's really bounced back real strong," Phillips said of Ware. "That's encouraging for him and for us tha tobviously it wasn't anything worse than that."
Victor Butler, who played 16 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Chargers, takes over for Ware in the starting lineup.
Safety Pat Watkins is out two-to-four weeks with a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in the left knee. Phillips didn't say if the team will put Watkins on injured reserve with just three games remaining in the season.
Tight end Martellus Bennett is out for this week's game still dealing with the effects of a concussion suffered in the Giants game. Bennett could practice this week because he has passed medical tests to clear him, but he failed to pass those tests in enough time to play this week. Bennett, if he has no further problems, should play Dec. 27 at the Redskins.
Safety Ken Hamlin has missed the last four games with a left high ankle sprain. Hamlin might practice on Wednesday to get ready for the Saints game.
