Confusion reigns in Valley Ranch halls

At least the dysfunction at Valley Ranch is outside the locker room these days.
As if Jerry Jones' rambling hadn't made Wade Phillips' contract status confusing enough, the Cowboys' PR staff shot down a report that was on the team's Web site stating that the coach had agreed to a three-year contract extension. That report was promptly removed from the site.
That doesn't make it wrong. It just means the guy who signs paychecks around those parts didn't want that news out there.
Remember, the Cowboys' PR staff sent out a statement this morning to inform media members that Jones wouldn't discuss the Cowboys after today's press conference to promote a boxing match at Cowboys Stadium. Then Jerry danced around the issue with local reporters ... before confirming on ESPNEWS that Phillips would return for next season and hinting that a contract extension was likely.
Anybody wanna bet on the length for that extension?
